We are pleased to announce that Aquatic Living Resources has just been accepted into the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) where it joins nearly 19 000 other high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. The aim of the DOAJ is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals, thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. Indexation in the DOAJ means Aquatic Living Resources is in compliance with the open access policy of the DOAJ and meets all the strict criteria required for inclusion.

This is a great step forwards for Aquatic Living Resources, which recently announced the beginning of a new era by becoming a diamond open access journal and enabling all papers to be freely available without any subscriptions or publication fees for authors. This was possible with the support of Ifremer (French National Research Institute for Ocean Science) and IRD (French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development). Earlier, in January 2022 ALR had joined the open access movement.

Aquatic Living Resources welcomes authors to submit original research papers, review articles and prospective notes dealing with all exploited (i.e. fished or farmed) living resources in marine, brackish and freshwater environments. Priority is given to ecosystem-based approaches to the study of fishery and aquaculture social-ecological systems, including biological, ecological, economic and social dimensions. Its Editors-in-Chief are Pierre Boudry, François Le Loch, Olivier Thébaud and Verena Trenkel.

We are convinced that these recent developments will provide a strong base for wider audience and further growth of the journal.
