16 November 2017. President Jean-Marc Quilbé, and Editorial Director Agnès Henri of EDP Sciences have been attending the China-Europe Renewable Energy innovation Center Forum this week in Beijing to discuss collaborations and programs in the field. With a strong publishing record in renewable energies, EDP Sciences is proud to be involved in this initiative set up by North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) and The Network Hessen-China. The Innovation Center is committed to pushing forward renewable energy developments both in China and Europe through a close educational and technological cooperation among Chinese and European universities and enterprises. For EDP this signifies continued commitment in their drive for continuing strategic relationships with partners in China.

EDP Sciences and Jean-Lou Justine the Editor-in-Chief of Parasite are delighted to announce that the complete archive of the journal (previously Annales de Parasitologie Humaine et Comparée) is now available online. All articles from 1923-2017 are in free or open access and fully searchable to enable instant accessibility.

This collection includes 3228 articles amounting to 35,387 pages and includes many important papers in the field.

On 12 October 2017, EDP Sciences signed a partnership agreement with the Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – German National Library of Science and Technology to support the publication of conference proceedings in a number of STM fields.

The agreement will enable the TIB to publish all German conference proceedings in the areas of Physics, Engineering & Technology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Sciences in the Web of Conferences journal series at a special discounted rate.

As it is an important part of TIB’s strategy to facilitate the provision of scientific information, its director Prof. Sören Auer pointed out “that this cooperation agreement is one more step in the transformation process towards Open Access. While conference proceedings form a considerable part of our collection, we are eager to push their visiblity” – an endeavour that EDP Sciences has already been supporting for a number of years with the Web of Conferences portfolio.

Isaline Augusto, Publishing Editor at EDP Sciences commented on the agreement: “We are delighted to be able to work with the TIB and offer flexible solutions to ensure as many high impact German conference proceedings as possible are made available to the global academic community”.

Publishing conference proceedings in Open Access results in higher visibility and dissemination for important research. The dedicated Web of Conferences platform has a strong international profile amongst researchers at all stages of their careers, and records over 250,000 downloads per month.

October 12th, 2017. Today at the Frankfurt Bookfair, Tsinghua University Press and EDP Sciences launched the French version of Beautiful Structures and Beautiful Reactions ,Merveilleuses Structures. See here for the original press release.

Paris, France 5th October 2017. EDP Sciences is pleased to announce the recent launch of Emergent Scientist, an innovative new open access journal that puts young scientists at its heart. The journal was born out of the 2016 International Physicists' Tournament (IPT), and is supported by the French Physics Society and the French Academy of Science.

Emergent Scientist offers young scientists at the beginning of their careers, the opportunity to discover peer-reviewed publishing and the publication process. The journal will especially serve those junior scientists who may not pursue a career in research, but become engineers, analysts, consultants or the like – as they will rarely get the opportunity to experience the peer review process once they have left their academic studies.

Daniel Suchet, Editor in Chief of Emergent Scientist said, “To understand how science works, and how societies can rely on it, it is crucial for students not only to practice the scientific approach in study and class projects, but also to experience the publication process itself.” Suchet continued: “We have created Emergent Scientist to offer a publishing experience to any student interested in trying the peer-review process. We believe that by writing, reading, and reviewing articles, students can understand better how scientific knowledge is actually produced in our societies.”

“Students work so hard to defend and criticize their work against fellow student scientists at the International Physicists' Tournament”, said Michel Spiro, President of the French Physical Society, “the committee felt they should be able to turn those reports into scientific publications rather than discard them as soon as the tournament was finished. The launch of Emergent Scientist has provided a solution to the exciting problems of the IPT, but also a new way to bring the whole publication process – reading, writing, and reviewing – straight to young scientists.”

Agnès Henri, Editorial Director of EDP Sciences, commented, “At EDP Sciences we are committed to supporting the dissemination and integration of scientific knowledge into society. We know that young scientists need support to understand the publishing process and through Emergent Scientist, we are delighted to help shape the future of research by providing an outlet for our brightest young scientific minds“.

As with any other academic journal, Emergent Scientist will receive manuscripts, ask referees to review them, supervise their revision by the authors, and publish them once they reach a satisfactory level of scientific quality. The journal does not expect authors to exhibit groundbreaking results, but to show exemplary scientific rigour and clarity in the way they tackle a problem and report their findings.

The first articles are available at https://emergent-scientist.edp-open.org and while Emergent Scientist is currently physics oriented, the intention is for the scope to be broadened as soon as possible to include subjects such as mathematics and the life sciences.

EDP Sciences is a mission-driven international publisher owned by learned societies with shared values to accelerate scientific progress through the dissemination of important research and to encourage the cross-fertilization of ideas to society in general. EDP Sciences has almost a century’s experience of publishing journals, books, and conference proceedings and has been proudly supporting Open Access for a number of years applying our knowledge and global resources to launching and developing successful Open Access publications and initiatives.
