Congratulations to our longstanding colleague, Alain Aspect, Université Paris-Saclay and École Polytechnique, France, for his award of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 and to John F. Clauser, USA and Anton Zeilinger, University of Vienna, Austria who also receive the award. According to the official press release, the new laureates have been recognised “for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science”. The three physicists “have each conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states… Their results have cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information.”.

We are pleased to highlight the recently completed EPJ B topical issue on “Evolutionary Game Theory”. The special issue contains over twenty articles, some of which are open access. The whole issue is free to read until 9 November 2022.

This year, Peer Review Week 2022 (PRW 2022) is celebrating “the essential role that peer review plays in maintaining scientific quality” with a focus on “Research Integrity: Creating and supporting trust in research”. We are grateful to this annual event for highlighting the important role peer reviewers play in science publishing. So, before we continue, a heartfelt thank you to all our reviewers and anyone who helps to support peer review.

It is with great pleasure that we are extending our Science Publishing Masterclasses to Chinese researchers and students through a series of four online sessions running from September to December 2022. The sessions relate to journals publishing and begin in September with an “Introduction to scientific publishing” followed by “How to write a scientific research paper”, “How to publish your research paper” and “Open science, Open access”.

We are pleased to announce an agreement with ResearchGate for the hosting (“Version of Record Hosting”) of content from the majority of our open access journals. The agreement consists of a pilot program until the end of 2023 and initially, only includes open access journals. The titles are all peer-reviewed and cover a range of disciplines; they include the Journal of Space Weather and Space Climate, Acta Acustica and all six Web of Conferences proceedings journals – see the full list below.

We are pleased to report that the proceedings of the 12th South African Conference on Computational and Applied Mechanics (SACAM 2020), published in MATEC Web of Conferences, have been specially selected for indexation in Scopus.

We are delighted to introduce Security and Safety (S&S), a new international, interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open access journal. S&S focuses on Integrated Security and Safety and is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is led by Editor-in-Chief, Professor Jiangxing Wu, Director of China’s National Digital Switching System Engineering and Technological R&D Center.

Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena (MMNP), a research journal published by EDP Sciences and the Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI), has become the first mathematics journal to partner with Peer Community In (PCI). PCI is a non-profit, non-commercial platform that publishes recommendations of preprints after peer-review through specific communities of researchers.
